CONFERENCE FOR THE 25TH SUMMER UNIVERSITY ON FEDERALISM, DECENTRALISATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION
At the start of the 21st century, most European states are being confronted with autonomy and independence movements that vary in intensity and in their historical, political, cultural and economic roots and aspirations. The legitimacy of the European nation state is being subjected to the twin forces of Europeanization and globalization from above, and to increasingly strident demands for autonomy or independence from below.
